On July 4th Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to DPRK A.I.Matsegora visited Akademgorodok during his visit to Novosibirsk.
Firstly being met by the dean of the NSU, Mikhail Petrovich Fedoruk, he participated in a meeting with the students and professors of the Oriental Studies Department, organized by the NSU Center for Korean Study.
Mr.Matsegora gave a succinct analysis of the modern stage of Russian-North Korean relations and straightforwardly defined the stance of the Russian side on the problem of the nuclear missile crisis on Korean Peninsula.
In the conditions of information deficit on the situation in North Korea, there is a big interest for immediate information on the processes that are represented in a North-Korean economics today.
A.I. Matsegora specifically told about his swing through the country, which preceded his return to Russia.
During the conversation the NSU’s guest responded to questions paying especial attention to professional training of specialists in Korean Studies.
A.I. Matsegora underlined a big potential of Korean Study in Siberian and Far-East Regions.
According to his opinion, the overall co-operation with DPRK, enhanced studying of North-Korean issues, and also preparation of Korean specialists must be supported by the agreement between the NSU and Kim Il-sung University that was signed last autumn with North Korea. All this (in his opinion) should suffice not only for our Oriental studies, but also should serve Russian national interests.
