A stone monument from the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo has recently been discovered in Jian, northeastern China, in what could be “a major archaeological landmark,” a South Korean historian said, quoting a Chinese state newspaper.

Goguryeo controlled the northern half of the Korean Peninsula and northeastern China for more than 700 years until A.D. 668.

“The Chinese Cultural Relics News published by China’s State Administration carried the news of the discovery of a Goguryeo monument in an article dated Jan. 4,” Yeo Ho-gyu, a history professor of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, told Yonhap News Agency by phone. The third extant Goguryeo stele, if confirmed, would be a “landmark discovery in the history of local archaeological study,” said the professor who serves as an executive member of the private Society for Korean Ancient History.

According to the report, a Jian resident first discovered the new monument near a river on July 29 and reported it to the local cultural heritage authority.

The authority confirmed it as a Goguryeo monument after an on-site survey by a team of experts, it said.

Only two Goguryeo steles have so far been found ― one is the famous tombstone of King Gwanggaeto (фото см. ниже - В.А.) also unearthed in Jian in the 19th century and the other is Goguryeo Stele of Chungju found in South Korea in the late 1970s. The second one, better known as Goguryeo Stele of Jungwon, is one of the country’s national treasures.

Both are known to have been erected by King Jangsu (394-491) in the 5th century to honor his late father who is remembered as one of the greatest conquerors in Korean history for expanding the territory of Goguryeo to northeastern China.

Yeo and other historians say the third one is also believed to have been built by King Jangsu to display rules for managing other royal tombs, a purpose similar to that of the Stele of King Gwanggaeto.

Yoon Yong-goo, an expert at Incheon Metropolitan City Museum, says that the new one can be called “a miniature” of the one found earlier in the area, which is bigger and contains more general guidance.

The monument, according to the report, is 173 centimeters high and 60.6-66.5 centimeters wide and weighs 464.5 kilograms, while the Stele of King Gwanggaeto is 639 centimeters high.

The report also said the new one had 218 Chinese letters inscribed on it, with only 140 of them recognizable.

Интересно, что стелу нашли уже более пол-года назад, а в новостях она только сейчас. Видать, китайцы ее долго там рассматривали (перечеркивали лишнее?), небось и статей уже пачку написали.
Странно то, что обнаружена недалеко от знаменитой стелы того же времени. Зачем 2 в одном месте и все поставил ван Чансу? Сомнительно. И почему так долго искали? ведь она не маленькая, а тот район уже весь исследован китайцами и корейцами.
по форме она похожа на ту, которая в Чхунчжу (ездил специально в том году смотреть - защищена по-надежней китайской, не пробраться было и близко :( Там тоже иероглифов "кот наплакал"

Обстоятельства обнаружения не прописаны. Могли и раскопать.
Там же не было раскопок сплошными площадями.
Курганов в долине много, так что и эпиграфики изначально могло быть немало. Скорее странно, что до сих пор известна только Квангэтхо-вановская.
И где-то уже видел текст этой новой и не могу теперь вспомнить на каком сайте.

Кроме всего прочего, в статье говорится, что стела в настоящее время хранится в городском музее Цзианя и что
до мая текущего года она не будет открыта для публики.

В статье далее говорится про создание исследовательской группы в Китае, в которую вошли учёные, специализирующиеся на изучении истории Когурё.
Далее, что Государственная администрация культурного наследия Китая в своем опубликованном сообщении
заявила, что форма стелы представляет собой плиту, широко использовавшуюся, начиная с династии Восточная Хань. В свою очередь это подчеркивает связь культуры Китая и Когурё.
Автор статьи дает оценку тому, что Китай по-прежнему будет считать Когурё и Пархэ (Бохай) как часть своей собственной истории. И в конце пишет, что в июне прошлого года Администрация заявила о том, что границы Великой Китайской Стены на западе доходят до Синьцзян-Уйгурского автономного округа, а на востоке - до провинций Гирин и Хэйлунцзян.

Discovery of a Koguryŏ Stele in Ji’an

A Koguryŏ stele was discovered in summer of 2012 in a riverbed at Maxiangou, in the western part of Ji’an, Jilin Province. The stele was made of cut stone, with an angled top and a tenon on the bottom, indicating that it was once fixed into a stone base. The surface of the stele was badly worn, but an inscription of 218 characters appears on the front face, of which some 140 characters have been deciphered so far. The stele stands 173 meters in height and is more than 60 centimeters wide, and it weighs 464.5 kilograms.

The inscription mentions the Koguryŏ progenitor, Ch’umo, in language very similar to that on the Kwanggaet’o stele, also in Ji’an, dated to 414. The closing section of the Kwanggaet’o stele mentions that the king, during his lifetime, has stone stelae set up on the tombs of all the former kings in order to record the names of the families who guarded the tomb precincts. The newly discovered stele appears to be one of those mentions in the Kwanggaet’o stele inscription.

The stele was discovered a few hundred meters to the northwest of the Tomb of One Thousand Autumns (Qianqiumu) and a little over 1,000 meters to the east of the Great Western Tomb (Xidamu), both thought to be royal mausolea. The stele could have belonged to either of these tombs, or possibly to another royal tomb in the area, but the surviving text of the inscription does not indicate which tomb or which king is associated with that stele. There must once have been many other stelae of this kind marking the royal mausolea in Ji’an, so there is hope that more may come to light in time.

A transcription of the inscription appears below, based on Chinese reports and a photograph of a rubbing taken of the front face of the stele. The transcription must remain tentative until more precise data are made available. Reports indicate that a volume on the stele has already been prepared and will be published soon.
